Team Roger! is back and ready to raise money to fight Huntington's Disease!
For those of you that don't know, my dad was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease 5 years ago. HD is a genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities and has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Which means, If I were to test positive for the gene Talen, Cash & Sailor would have a 50/50 chance of also carrying the gene.
Over the last month Talen has started to research what HD is and has had many questions about his papa. Will he be able to talk at the end, will he be in a wheel chair, will he know me when I see him, how long before he cant do these things, and --- how long before he isn't here anymore --- those are all very hard questions because none of the answers are what you want to have to tell your 13 year old son. There have been a lot of tears both happy and sad, but I hope one day I will be able to tell him that he doesn't have to worry because they have found a cure! and that is why we are participating in the Team Hope Walk. So one day they can find a cure for those affecting by this disease.
Those of you that know my dad know that he has chosen to put one foot in front of the other since he was diagnosed and I can honestly count on one hand the amount of times he has complained since then. He has been an inspiration to me and that is why I put together Team Roger!
We hope that you will join us on Saturday, July 13 for our 2nd Annual Team Roger! Walk for Hope. If you cannot walk with us, please consider making a donation to our team fundraising page by clicking the ‘Donate’ button at the top of this page.
Thank you to all our friends and family for your support....
