Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure.
Colby and Lucy's dad, Shaun, has Huntington's Disease. HD has taken many, many members of their family for generations. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease.
The kids have held fundraisers and garage sales to raise money for all different organizations including American Cancer Society, homeless youth and the American Heart Association. They have raised more money for those charities than they've been able to for Huntington's Disease. They see all causes as equal and want to help as many people as they can. They have the biggest hearts.
