Huntington's Disease Society of America Center of Excellence

Serving patients and families affected by Huntington's Disease

Thank you for visiting our Team fundraising page! With your help, we can help HDSA achieve their mission to improve the lives of everyone with Huntington’s disease and their loved ones.

This team represents Palmetto Health-USC Neurology in collaboration with Palmetto Health-USC Genetic Counseling and USC College of Social Work. We are part of a clinic that is designated a Center of Excellence (COE) by the Huntington's Disease Society of America. Located in Columbia, we are the only HDSA Center for Excellence in South Carolina and one of 43 centers in the United States.  Our COE offers a statewide outpatient multidisciplinary clinic for individuals with Huntington's disease and their families. We serve families affected by this complex, challenging condition by tailoring each clinic visit to meet the needs of the individual.

We hope you can join us for this walk on October 14th! The Huntington’s Disease Society of America is the premier not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by Huntington’s disease. From community services and education to advocacy and research, HDSA is the world’s leader in providing help for today, hope for tomorrow for people with Huntington’s disease and their family.

Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure.

HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America is the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by HD.  From community services and education to advocacy and research, HDSA is the world’s leader in providing help for today and hope for tomorrow for people with HD and their families.

Across the United States, HDSA currently supports:
• 54 volunteer led Chapters & Affiliates
• 41 Centers of Excellence
• 65 Social Workers
• 160 Support Groups

Please walk with us by joining our team  on October 14th at Irmo Community Park, 7473 Church Street, Irmo SC from 2:00pm-4:00pm  and help make a difference!
