Hello Family and Friends!
We are again participating in the HD Walk on Saturday, October 21st.
For us, this is personal. As many of you know, Tom (my significant other) was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease (HD) 14 years ago, at the age of 41.
Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. HD has slowly taken away Tom’s ability to walk and talk and requires 24/7 care.
In October, Tom and I will celebrate 33 years together. Throughout the years we have been fortunate to have been able to spend quality time together and do so many things we wanted to do. During the last few years, this disease has robbed Tom from doing most things he used to enjoy doing. And it has robbed me by slowly taking away my life partner.
But because of the research being done to find treatments, Tom is still able to enjoy lots of life pleasures. Tom is still very much aware of his surroundings and is a happy go lucky guy.
Awareness of HD is happening all over the world and that means there is more money and research being done to help find better treatments and eventually a cure for this devastating disease. But until a cure is found, fundraisers, such as this walk are essential.
We need your help by joining our team to walk and/or sponsor us with whatever amount you can.
If your company, like mine, will match your donation, please make sure to take advantage of it.
Thank you for visiting our Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast, and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
If you would prefer to donate by check, please let me know and that can be easily arranged.
