Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page! I am walking this year to help find a cure for Huntington's Disease. Funds donated will go to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, the top research group and resource for people with HD in America.
Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure.
However, this past year has seen AMAZING strides in HD cure research. I feel NOW is a great time to add to funding support to help put this new potential cure into a wider study and get one step closer to making it available to all of us who might need it.
HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. My father is living with Huntington's Disease and that means all of my siblings and our children potentially have the gene. I am one of 4 kids, and there are 12 grandkids.
To learn more about Huntington’s disease and the work of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, visit www.hdsa.org or call 1-800-345-HDSA. This group was INSTRUMENTAL in finding the help we needed for my dad when Huntington's Disease started hammering our family. They provided physical and emotional support for both my father and my mother. I love HDSA.
