Huntington's Disease took our family by surprise. While we were campaigning, researching and guarding for 20 years against Mom's Alzheimer's, my witty and gentle brother-in-law Richard began to show signs of mental and physical deterioration in the prime of his life. The progression is rapid and ruthless.
Huntington’s Disease causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. HD is the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. There is no cure. My nephews cheerfully and lovingly help their Dad, hoping he does not represent the ghost of their future.
Hope is what we cling to. So, every September, the four sisters gather with Carol and Richard in NYC to walk to raise funds to find a cure for Huntington's Disease. Quintessential family disease counter attack!
Years have shown me that in everything, we are bigger, stronger, more powerful and effective working together. I appeal to you, (and to many of you once again) as my community of known "givers", to make a contribution in any amount.
Thank you for considering "my" cause. Forever and always, PLEASE invite me to support yours-to be there for one another!
