Team Hope Walk for Huntington's Disease   Saturday May 4, 2019    Aberdeen Park     Check in 8:00am   Walk Start  9:00am

Hello everyone, and welcome to the First Ever Team Hope Walk in Aberdeen Ohio! We are so excited to have you here! Through this walk, we are hoping to reach a $10,000.00 goal in support of Huntington's Disease research, education & advocacy efforts. I just wanted to take a moment to explain my connection to Huntington's Disease.

Huntingtons has been in my family since I can remember.  My grandmother was the first person that I was old enough to remember to have the disease.  Following my grandmother, my mom started showing symptoms around the age of 39. My mother has siblings who are also affected by HD.  All affected have children, which now have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the disease. I myself over this past year went through the genetic testing process.  I also carry the mutated gene, which now means my children have a 50/50 chance of carrying the mutated gene.

I am coming to you today seeking your help of helping fund for this incurable disease.  I want my kids to live in a treatable HD world. I want to be able to tell them, “Yes there is something that can help you”, instead of the words I’ve been spoken to all my life “there is nothing you can do”.  I am a advocating mother, trying to find a way to have my kids live HD free lives, and for their kids to be HD free babies. This disease has tore my entire family apart. Even those who do not personally carry the Gene, have become caregivers for those who do.  Everyone in my family is affected by this HD.

I am asking you to participate in the first annual Aberdeen Ohio Team Hope Walk, from wherever you are.  Even if you aren’t able to attend in person, you can create a virtual team from anywhere in the world! You can build a team and raise money from any virtual location and all funds go straight to this event. If you are local, please come join us, we are so excited to make this event a success!

Team Hope Walks aim to raise as much money possible in the local community to support the mission and services of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. There are many different fundraising strategies you may use to have a successful fundraising campaign, and HDSA suggests you use all of them! To download the Team Hope Walk Participant Packet and check out the Team Hope website’s Fundraising Tips & Tools (including some fundraising webinars!) and Participant Resources sections.

We invite all local companies and small businesses to sponsor this Team Hope Walk. We depend on the generosity of sponsors, and by sponsoring a walk your company will be supporting a great cause as well as engaging in an exciting marketing opportunity within the local community. What is Huntington’s Disease?

Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years and has no cure. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes the disease. Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. The symptoms of Huntington’s disease are described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously.
